A commemorative plaque has been unveiled to formally open the new offices of the Jersey Royal British Legion (RBL).

Lieutenant Governor Sir Jerry Kyd opened the new refurbishment in St Helier on Wednesday. Its last refurbishment was in 1997 when the Jersey branch was officially opened, as the charity's marked it 75th anniversary.

The RBL provides lifelong support to serving personnel, veterans and their families. Sir Jerry said opening the new offices hoped to be a support for them.

He said: "Going since 1922, the RBL provides such a charitable base for all our veterans across the island and their families and having a new facility like this in St Helier just adds that extra venue for us to do that work.

"On the island, we've got many thousands of veterans, so well done RBL and well done to the contractor."

Jersey branch's RBL Chairman Paul Bradley said it had achieved a balance "between functionality and a welcoming vibe".

He said: "I hope this new look encourages veterans and their families to drop in when they're nearby.

"Just a reminder that we are always here to help and guide any veterans and family members that may need our assistance."
