Police appeal after retired bus driver dies following hit-and-run
Police ScotlandA 74-year-old man who died after being found injured in Baillieston was struck by a vehicle, police have said.
Retired bus driver William Cherry was found on Maxwell Street, near its junction with Main Street, at about 17:50 on Friday, 5 December.
Emergency services attended, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The manner of his death was established following a post-mortem examination. Police have appealed for witnesses.
In a statement, Mr Cherry's family said he was "a devoted father and grandfather", known for "his friendly nature, long walks with his dog Milo, and for helping others".
They added that he had a "heart of gold" and described him as a "true gentleman".
"He will be sorely missed by many," they said.
Police said they were following a positive line of inquiry.
Officers are continuing to appeal to the public and urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or a vehicle driving dangerously in the surrounding area to come forward.
Det Sgt Graham Clarke said: "Our thoughts remain with William's family and friends at this very difficult time, and our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
"We now know that William died as a result of being struck by a car, and I'd ask that anyone in the local area please think back to whether they witnessed a crash or a vehicle driving dangerously that evening.
"I'd also ask that people review their private CCTV and dashcam footage to see if it has captured anything of significance that could assist with our investigation."
