Two men arrested after car crashes into a pub
The Woolpack, SopleyTwo men have been arrested after a car crashed into a pub in the early hours of Monday morning.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to The Woolpack in Sopley in the New Forest, just before 04:00 BST, after it was reported a car had crashed into the pub.
Police confirmed nobody had been hurt and officers subsequently went to an address in Bournemouth, Dorset, where they arrested two 21-year-old men from Bournemouth on suspicion of dangerous driving, and drink and drug driving offences.
Both men remain in police custody as the investigation continues, the force says.
The Woolpack, SopleyBarbara Smith the landlady for the pub said she was "gutted" as the site had already been closed since January after suffering severe flooding.
She said she was not at the pub at the time but somehow the vehicle had cleared a stream, destroyed some of the stone garden furniture and then clipped the building.
"I can't believe it happened. The locals said it was the first time a car had cleared the brook," she said.
She says they hope to still reopen by the middle of June.
