New hotel terrace bid after 'financial loss'
BBCA hotel terrace that has been closed due to a structural issue has caused "significant financial loss" for the premises, managers have said.
Radisson Blu Waterfront Jersey has submitted an application to build a temporary terrace, which will be a wooden, timber-decked platform.
The planning application said problems with the existing terrace had caused an "immediate and severe impact" on trade as scaffolding had had to be installed to prevent the risk of something falling down on to it.
It said: "Without a functional terrace area, the hotel cannot meet normal guest expectations for a four-star waterfront property."
The former structure had enough room for 80 to 100 guests, bosses said.
The application said the current structure impacted al fresco dining services, bar and lounge overflow, private events and receptions, and seasonal and weekend hotel occupancy.
The application said a new structure was essential to protect employment levels and staff hours, re-establish an outdoor service, and to maintain Jersey's reputation as a "high-quality visitor destination".
Bosses asked the planning team to approve the application as soon as possible.
If approved, the new terrace would be in place for 12 months until April 2027.
