A Cornish beach was cordoned off after a drum with fluid inside washed up on the sand.

HM Coastguard said it received reports the drum, which had no markings, had been found on Par Beach at about 11:15 GMT on Saturday.

St Austell Coastguard said on Facebook it had requested assistance from Cornwall Fire Service to make the item secure because the sealed drum contained fluid.

The post added the drum was removed by a crew from St Austell Fire Station before the cordon was lifted.
