A Staffordshire bull terrier cross is hoping for a home she can call her own this Christmas after arriving at an RSPCA centre more than 500 days ago.

Jasmine was underweight, had sores and scabs, and was balding due to fleas when she arrived at the RSPCA Millbrook animal centre in Chobham, Surrey, but has now "blossomed", staff say.

Animal care assistant Lauren Sillett has cared for Jasmine throughout her 537-day stay and said: "She's so sweet and affectionate and she's got such a funny, silly personality."

It was Ms Sillett who realised Jasmine reached the unfortunate milestone at Millbrook while taking photographs of her.

Ms Sillett said: "She is an older girl but she still has so much energy and love to give. She's happiest when she's playing with her toys or snoozing after a gentle walk.

"We would love her to be in a new home in time for Christmas - she's such a sweet girl and we're keen to see her get the happy ending she deserves."

The RSPCA has announced a partnership with Omaze, with money from the entertainment company's Million Pound House Draw helping to rehabilitate rescue animals at the charity.

Oli Whiteway, animal centre manager at Millbrook, said RSPCA centres across England and Wales were full with rescue animals and the charity could not keep up with demand.

"Our teams are working incredibly hard, under immense pressure, to protect the welfare of every animal in our care," he added.

"Omaze's funding will support the RSPCA's animal rehabilitation work across our centres and and hospitals in England and Wales, meaning we can give hundreds of rescued animals the specialised care and attention they need to recover from cruelty, neglect, abuse and injury."
