Several people were injured, some seriously, in a pile-up on a main road in Lincolnshire, police have said.

Officers were called to the crash involving four vehicles on the A17 between Sleaford and East Heckington just after 21:00 GMT on Tuesday, Lincolnshire Police said.

A force spokesperson said: "A number of people involved in the collision sustained injuries, both minor and serious."

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation, they added.

Police said the road would be closed for several hours from 15:00 GMT on Wednesday between the Holdingham and Bicker Bar roundabouts and advised motorists to avoid the area.

They said the crash outside Garwick Farm, on Boston Road in Heckington, involved a blue Volvo V50, a black E Class Mercedes, a silver Mitsubishi Shogun and a white Volkswagen Passat.

Officers appealed for witnesses and anyone who may have captured dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the collision and the collision itself.
