A driver has been killed in a three-vehicle crash on the A3 in Hindhead, police say.

The incident happened at about 18:30 GMT on Tuesday on the southbound carriageway just before the Hindhead Tunnel.

The man, who was believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene and his family have been informed.

Five people were taken to hospital by paramedics, including a woman in her 30s who sustained life-threatening injuries and four men in their 20s who were seriously injured.

The road was closed in both directions overnight for emergency services to deal with the incident.

Both carriageways have since reopened.

Surrey Police is urging anyone who may have witnessed what happened, or who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch.
