Man, 23, charged with terrorism offences

A 23-year-old man from Hull has been charged with multiple terror offences.

Mikka Lee Anderson, of Morpeth Street, was arrested on 26 February as part of a pre-planned intelligence-led operation by Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) North East and Humberside Police.

He has been charged with preparing acts of terrorism, possession of articles for a terrorist purpose, two counts of possessing information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing, or preparing an act of terrorism, and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Anderson, who CTP describe as a white British national, is due appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Thursday.

A residential property in Hull was searched as part of the operation and a 23-year-old woman who was arrested at the same time has been released without charge, counter terrorism police said.

Det Ch Supt James Dunkerley, head of CTP North East, said: "We understand that the arrests and police activity that have taken place may have caused concern in the local community.

"Public safety remains our number one priority at all times.

"We will continue to work alongside Humberside Police and our partners to act on any information that indicates a potential threat to our communities."
