More homes approved as part of major development

Plans to build a further 233 homes on a large housing development have been approved by councillors.

West Northamptonshire Council has given permission for the homes on land between Harpole and the outskirts of Northampton, as part of the Norwood Farm project.

In total, the project will include 1,900 homes along with shops, a school and green spaces.

The latest phase will include 76 affordable homes as well as 157 market-priced homes.

Original outline plans for the entire site were approved in 2020, with infrastructure set to include a local centre, a primary school and public open space.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, one letter of objection was received to the latest application.

At a strategic planning meeting, Steven Trythall, representing Vistry Group, the developer, said: "Perhaps the most significant benefit is the additional affordable homes that will be provided within this parcel, again with a mix of rented and shared ownership.

"This means that 33% – more than double that is required on the Norwood Farm site – will be delivered as affordable homes within this application."

He added that the latest proposals would create a "characterful and well-considered development" that would be "a sought-after place to live".
