Drivers told to 'respect' landslip road closure

Drivers have been asked to respect a road closure which was put in place following a landslip after new pictures revealed the extent of the damage.

The A592 at High Kingate, north of Troutbeck in the Lake District, was closed on Wednesday after heavy rain washed away much of the earth in the area.

Westmorland and Furness Council said the pictures, taken during a technical survey, showed the landslip had undermined the road and washed "a lot of material down the steep hillside".

A spokesperson said: "For the safety of themselves and others, road users are requested to observe and respect the closures and please do not try to get through the barriers on the closed section."

Drivers are instead asked to follow a diversion along the A6.
