A Manchester United shirt worn by Sir David Beckham during the club's Treble-winning campaign has sold for £10,000 at auction.

The former midfielder wore the red No 7 home shirt from the 1998-99 season in a league game against Arsenal and a FA Cup clash against Chelsea.

Budds auctioneers also sold a pair of silver boots won by Cristiano Ronaldo while he played at Old Trafford for £7,500.

The Nike worn football boots, with the tongue inscribed R9, were retrieved from the bin at United's Carrington training ground by cleaner Tony Heywood in 2004.

Heywood was a cleaner with the club for 46 years.

And a black No 7 shirt worn by Ronaldo when United beat 1-0 Liverpool at Anfield in 2005 sold for £14,000.

The Portuguese forward left Old Trafford to join Real Madrid in 2009 in a £80m deal.

The Beckham shirt, Ronaldo top and boots were sold at the auction in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on 28 April.

However an original Manchester United stadium sign failed to sell at the same auction after its £40,000 reserve price was not met.

United's former manager Sir Matt Busby had given the private vendor permission to take it when it was removed from Old Trafford's famous Stretford End in 1992.
