Plans to introduce a new cycle area in St Lawrence have been welcomed by a sports group as it says biking facilities continue to improve in the island.

Jersey Cycling said it welcomed plans for a new pump track, which is a looped circuit designed for wheeled sports including skateboards and rollerblades.

Sand dunes, a nature play area and an amphitheatre have also been included in the redevelopment plans for the playing field next to Coronation Park - using land that a benefactor gifted to the island.

Karen Bull, the group's vice president, said it was exciting to see plans that reflected what families had been asking for.

Her son Maverick said it would be "a good place to make new friends and it's a fun and safe space to have fun on your bike, scooter, skateboard - anything with wheels really".

The 11-year-old said he was most excited for "the general thrill of just going around as fast as possible, doing bit of freestyle and some fun skills on it".

She said: "We've been campaigning for this throughout the last three years and one of aims at Jersey cycling is to improve bike facilities for the whole community on the island.

"I'm really excited, not only as vice president but also as a mum as well, to see my little boy so happy that we're finally getting something that's very, very much needed in Jersey."

Jersey Cycling said the track would be a "safe, accessible space" for people to "develop skills, stay active and enjoy being outdoors" and that pump tracks were "widely recognised for encouraging confidence, fitness and positive social interaction across generations".
