New police complaints chairman appointed

The body that monitors police complaints in Jersey has appointed a new chairman.

Chris Stephenson was appointed by the Jersey Police Complaints Authority (JPCA) after an on-island recruitment process.

Mr Stephenson, an experienced HR director, will take from over Janet Naylor, who has held the voluntary role since 2021.

Deputy Helen Miles, a member of the Children, Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel, said Mrs Naylor's "dedication" had "driven forward important improvements" and "been a source of consistent and valued advice".

Mr Stephenson, who has held various roles in the Jersey government since 2012, is the current chairman of the Jersey Appointments Commission.

The authority has also appointed Simon Burgess, who works as an arbitrator and mediator, as a new member.

The JPCA does not carry out investigations itself but provides independent oversight of investigations to ensure they are fair.
