The former council depot off Olding Road in Bury St Edmunds is due to be transformed

A building previously used as a council vehicle depot and an NHS storage facility is to be partly demolished, as part of multimillion-pound plans to create a leisure site.

Work can begin to clear asbestos from the Bury St Edmunds building and raze almost half of the vacant structure after West Suffolk councillors backed the plans on Wednesday.

The works are part of a larger application, still to be determined, to turn the building off Olding Road into a venue with trampolines and padel courts.

Xtreme360 has already been lined up as a tenant.

In September, West Suffolk Council's cabinet agreed a £6m finance plan for the site.

The building has been empty for several years.
