Cricket team collects Christmas trees for club
Saltash Cricket ClubA Cornish cricket club is offering a Christmas tree collection service to help raise funds for its youth teams.
Saltash Cricket Club chairman Shayn Rencher, who has been in his role for two years, said it was the second year the club had offered the service.
Last year, the team collected 160 trees, raising about £1,100 for its youth teams through donations.
"All the team help out and it's quite a fun team building exercise followed by a pint after," he said.
Mr Rencher said: "We make a suggested donation of £5 but some people do donate more which is great," he said.
"They have to be real trees and not plastic ones, no decorations or lights," he said.
Mr Rencher said the funds helped towards the "expensive" cricket equipment for youth teams, which have grown "exponentially" in the two years since launching.
He said: "We are trying to make sure they've all got the right kit to play hardball cricket."
Mr Rencher said WeDump4U waste removal and skip hire helped last year and would be providing vehicles and disposing of the trees, as well as Tamar Trash also providing its vehicles.
People in the Saltash and Plymouth areas can book their space through the club ready for collection on 4 January.
