Civic plaza and events space to be created in Erskine
Renfrewshire CouncilA new civic plaza, garden and events space is to be created in Erskine by next summer.
The plaza will be built on vacant land at Erskine Sports Centre and will provide a meeting space for local people, as well as room for events and market stalls.
The plan will include a recreational greenspace and garden, with seating areas, natural play features and new walking routes from the town centre to the sports and medical centres.
Local residents and community groups were involved in the plan, which is the first phase of wider enhancements within the town centre that Renfrewshire Council has developed.
Among the suggestions from locals being incorporated are improved lighting on paths, infrastructure to support a Christmas tree and fencing and hedges to border the site.
Councillor Andy Steel, the convener of the council's economy and regeneration policy board, said: "The new plaza and greenspace will make this area more attractive and encourage local people to visit, with the opportunity for markets or community events to be held here.
"We're continuing to work hard to develop all of our towns and villages and this significant investment will make a positive difference to Erskine and everyone who lives there or visits."
The project represents an investment of more than £500,000 within the town centre and has been funded by Renfrewshire Council, the UK government's shared prosperity fund and the Scottish government's place-based investment programme.
The contract has been awarded to Covanburn Contracts Limited. Work is set to get under way in early January 2026 and be completed over the summer.
