A new timetable begins across the UK railway industry on 14 December

A new timetable will come into effect across the railway industry from Sunday.

The changes will see additional services introduced across the South East, with some services having extra carriages creating more seats for passengers.

Services on Southeastern, Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and South Western Railway (SWR) will all have some changes.

Here, we take a look at the key changes below and how this might affect your journey:

Southeastern

  • Some trains between London's terminals and Hastings will have more carriages in both the morning and evening peak-hours.
  • Additional peak-time services between London Charing Cross and Maidstone East will be in operation, making the service half-hourly.
  • Weekend services between London Victoria and Dartford/Gravesend will be lengthened to eight carriages.
  • Extra evening trains on the route between London Charing Cross and Dartford via Bexleyheath will be introduced.
  • A total of 29 additional weekday and weekend highspeed services will run between London St Pancras International and Faversham, making the service half-hourly until weekday evenings and all day Saturday.
  • Some services across the network have been subject to minor timing adjustments.

Govia Thameslink Railway

Govia Thameslink Railway operates Southern, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services in Kent, Sussex and Surrey
  • A new morning and evening peak service between Eastbourne and London Bridge will run. The service departs Eastbourne at 06:47 GMT and arrives in London at 08:25. The return leaves London Bridge at 17:03 and arrives back in Eastbourne at 18:35, with stops including Hampden Park, Lewes and Three Bridges.
  • Services between East Grinstead and London Victoria will now be half-hourly during the middle of the day on weekdays during school holidays and Thursday's and Friday's in term-time.
  • More services between Brighton and Southampton will stop at Porchester.
  • The 06:46 service from London Victoria to Ore will now stop at Wivelsfield at 07:38 before continuing towards Eastbourne and Ore.
  • The existing 06:23 Eastbourne to Ore service will now start at Brighton at 05:37 and call at Lewes, Polegate and Hampden Park before continuing on to Ore.
  • The 05:52 weekday service from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria attaches to a Reigate to London Victoria service at Redhill. The Gatwick Airport portion of this service will now start at Three Bridges at 05:47.
  • To improve early morning journeys towards Portsmouth for stations between Havant and Chichester, extra stops on an early morning service between Gatwick Airport and Portsmouth Harbour will be introduced.
  • There are no significant changes to Gatwick Express services.

South Western Railway

More Class 701 trains will be on the South Western Railway network
  • SWR says there are no significant changes to train times.
  • Some services will use a different type of train, as SWR phases out its Class 455 fleet.
  • Other services have been subject to minor changes from the autumn timetable.

Passengers travelling over the Christmas and New Year period are being advised to check before travelling due to several engineering projects taking place across the network.
