Police have renewed an appeal for information after a man was stabbed while walking on a footpath at a golf course.

Officers were called to the scene on Newport Road in Stafford, at about 19:00 BST on Thursday.

The victim, in his 60s, remains in a critical condition in hospital on Sunday, with specialist officers continuing to support him and his family, Staffordshire Police said.

The force confirmed that he had been walking along a public footpath through the golf course in the Castlefields area of the town when he was approached from behind.

Anyone who was in the Castlefields area between 17:00 and 20:00 BST, or those with CCTV or dashcam footage have been asked to get in contact.

The suspect was described as being in his mid-to-late-20s, of average build, wearing dark clothing and may be of Eastern European descent, police said.

Officers are maintaining an increased policing presence in the area and are carrying out patrols and house-to-house inquiries.

Det Insp Dave Rowlands said: "I want to reassure the community that we are doing everything in our power to identify and apprehend those responsible.

"There is a significant policing operation underway, including increased patrols in the area, and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.

He said that they were committed to keeping the public informed and ensuring the safety of the community.

"Your information remains vital to our investigation, and even the smallest detail could make a difference," he added.

Information can be submitted through an online portal or anonymously through Crimestoppers.
