A man has been arrested after a woman was raped in a city centre park.

Emergency services were called to Bristol's Castle Park at 10:30 GMT on Sunday after concerns were raised for the wellbeing of the victim.

She was taken to hospital and later discharged to recover at home, police said.

A man in his 30s has since been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody. Officers asked any members of the public who might have seen the incident, which happened between 09:30 and 10:30, to get in touch.

Avon and Somerset Police's neighbourhood Ch Insp Keith Smith said he knew how concerning the incident was.

"While these incidents are very rare, our serious sexual offences team Operation Bluestone are carrying out a full investigation into what happened to ensure we can take action," he added.
