One person has been seriously hurt after a car crashed into a barrier on a busy dual carriageway, closing the road for several hours.

Greater Manchester Police said it had responded to a serious road traffic collision which happened on East Lancashire Road, in Worsley, Salford at about 14:00 BST.

North West Ambulance Service said one person had been taken to hospital with "serious injuries". Drivers were urged to "avoid the area if possible".

The westbound carriage of East Lancashire Road was reopened shortly before 17:45 according to traffic monitoring service Inrix - while the eastbound carriageway remains closed.

National Highways North West said the anti-clockwise exit slip road off of the M60 was reopened at 18:00 - with no expected delays to travel.

GMP said the road was expected to remain shut for "some time" as emergency services carried out an investigation.
