Former recycling site to become lorry depot
Clare Cowan/BBCA former recycling centre in Surrey is set to become a storage depot for coaches and lorries.
Surrey Heath Borough Council's planning committee granted planning permission for a proposal to change the use ofBagshot Community Recycling Centre.
Surrey County Council shut the facility in March.
According to council documents, "the openness of the green belt was already compromised to some extent by the recycling containers and former activity associated with the use".
The site is adjacent to Swift Lane Gypsy and Traveller pitches but the planning committee heard the land could not be used for additional pitches.
The site is classed as contaminated and unsuitable for housing, at risk of flooding, and a separate proposal to increase the number of pitches already exists, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
