Members of the Edale Mountain Rescue Team were participating in the Great Kinder Barrel Race on Saturday.
The annual event involves eight-strong teams taking on a four-mile (6.4km) race on the hills and moors near Edale.
Race marshals requested assistance when one of the runners fell beneath Nether Tor on the southern edges of Kinder Scout and badly injured their leg.

They were able to rejoin the race after a "quick turnaround" and after colleagues arrived to support the rescue effort.
A team spokesperson said the casualty was given analgesia before being stretchered back to Edale and handed over to paramedics.
The race organisers said on their website: "Particular mention to the Monday Night Footballers who had to leave an injured man on the hill and to the Edale Mountain Rescue Team who brought him down.
"Well done and thank you to all involved."
