Man admits firearm charge on first day of trial

A man who was arrested following an altercation in Derby has admitted a firearms charge.

William Lyon had been due to stand trial at Derby Crown Court but on the first day on Monday changed his plea to guilty for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life or enable another to do so.

The 21-year-old, of Cloudberry Close, Derby, had been detained on 15 September after police were called to reports of an altercation in Cowsley Road, Chaddesden, on 16 July.

He also admitted affray and criminal damage to property valued under £5,000. He will be sentenced on 24 April.

A charge of attempted murder has been left on file pending sentencing.
