Work to build a new primary care centre on the site of a former Methodist church in Derbyshire is set to begin.

The project in Elmton Road, Creswell, will cost an estimated £3m, the NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has said.

Contracts were signed earlier this month after agreements were reached between the local NHS, two GP practices and a development company. Building work is expected to be completed by the end of the year and the centre opened to patients in early 2027.

The facility will replace Creswell and Langwith Medical Centre and Crags Healthcare surgery, also in Creswell, and provide services for patients of those two sites.

It will include six clinical consulting rooms and two treatment rooms for patients of Creswell and Langwith Medical Centre, with another consulting room and treatment room for Crags patients.

There will also be a shared waiting area, separate reception desks for the two practices, and 27 car parking spaces, along with accessible spaces for wheelchairs and people with disabilities.

The ICB said the current Creswell and Langwith surgery building in Welbeck Street, Creswell was "outdated and not large enough", and said the Crags site was not accessible for people with disabilities, with no dedicated car parking.

Creswell and Langwith Medical Centre is part of Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Foundation Trust. It will be the lead tenant of the building and will sub-let space to Crags Healthcare.

The ICB said the costs of the new building had been met using investments from itself, the community health services NHS trust, and contributions from the developers of new housing on approved sites on nearby Colliery Road and Skinner Street.

Maria Principe, executive director of commissioning for NHS Derby and Derbyshire, said: "We are very pleased to have reached agreement with the two practices and Welbeck to build a modern and accessible health centre for Creswell."

Principe said the new centre will provide "much improved facilities for patients and an improved working environment for staff".
