Man and woman, 24, die in crash in Aberdeenshire

Two people have died in a two-car crash on a road in Aberdeenshire.

The collision happened on the A952 between Toll of Birness and Mintlaw near the village of Clola at about 19:25 on Saturday.

A 24-year-old man, the passenger in a black Vauxhall Corsa, was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver, a 24-year-old woman, died after being taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

A 62-year-old man, a 61-year-old woman and two boys aged seven and five who were in a grey Land Rover Evoque were also taken to hospital after the crash.

Police closed the road for several hours while an initial investigation was carried out.

Officers have appealed for anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the crash with dash-cam footage to come forward.

Sgt Pete Henderson said: "Our thoughts are with the families of those who died and everyone affected by this incident."
