Olympic ice skating champion Sir Christopher Dean is to appear at a science and arts festival in Hull.

Sir Christopher, who won gold with skating partner Dame Jayne Torvill in 1984, will give a talk at Colliderfest 2026 on Saturday.

The event, being held at the University of Hull's Middleton Hall, will look at the importance of preparation and focus in sport.

Talking to BBC Look North, Sir Christopher said sporting success was down to "focus and it's also the time that you put in".

"We would train five and six hours a day all year round and then 15 years later, that all comes to fruition," he said.

"So it's staying focused for that time and having those moments of when it gets hard, you don't leave the ice, you stay on the ice and just keep going at it."

Other highlights from the weekend festival, which will take place in the city centre, include an audience with space scientist and broadcaster Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock.

Most of the events will be free to attend with no booking required, but there are some ticketed shows and experiences.
