A "small number" of cases of bird flu have been confirmed in Leeds, according to the city council.

The local authority said the cases had been detected in wild birds at Yeadon Tarn.

A spokesperson confirmed it was working with the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and other organisations to monitor the situation.

The area remained open for visitors, they said, with posters advising how to help prevent the spread of the virus placed around the site. Visitors have been asked to not touch or feed wild birds and keep dogs away from them. Dead birds should be reported to DEFRA.
