Dangerous driver sentenced after ramming police cars
Nottinghamshire PoliceA man who rammed two police cars while trying to escape has been sentenced for dangerous driving.
Police tried to pull over Jahmaine Kennywell, after he was seen driving a van that had been reported stolen on the A610 in Nottingham in January.
The 24-year-old was boxed in by officers, but instead of stopping, he rammed into two police cars and a stationary vehicle, the force said.
Kennywell, of Smith Crescent, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, was given a 15-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.
Nottinghamshire Police said the offender was arrested at the roadside and later, in an interview, said he had panicked when suddenly surrounded by flashing lights.
He also said the van belonged to one of his associates.
Kennywell later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving without insurance.
No charges were brought in relation to the alleged theft of the van.
