'Neglected' animals rescued from sanctuary
West Midlands PoliceDogs, cats, waterfowl and birds of prey have been rescued after being found "in a state of neglect" in an animal sanctuary, police said.
The animals were found living in "extreme conditions" on land in Halesowen in the West Midlands by officers working with the RSPCA, and an investigation has now begun.
While searching the site, nine "non-viable" firearms and a ninja throwing star weapon were also seized by West Midlands Police.
Sgt Ben Dolan, from the force's wildlife, rural and heritage crime team, said the animals were all alive, safe, and in the RSPCA's care, adding: "This was a distressing and complex incident."
The animals included puppies, kittens, ducks, geese and barn and snowy owls, officers said.
West Midlands PolicePolice added that officers from across Dudley supported the specialist wildfire team during the large-scale operation on 4 September, and thanked a member of the public who made the initial report.
No arrests have been made.
"I want to thank all the officers and the RSPCA who stepped in to protect the public and the wildlife and move these animals so they could receive proper care and attention," Dolan said.
