A man whose body was found in a burned-out vehicle died from smoke inhalation, an inquest has heard.

The opening into the death of Hugh Mulryan, 25, at North Yorkshire Coroner's Court earlier was told that the deceased, originally from County Galway, was discovered on Marishes Lane, near Malton, at about 04:00 BST on 16 June.

North Yorkshire Police said at the time they were supporting his family in Ireland, but no further information about his death was released.

Mr Mulryan was well-known in racing and bloodstock circles and had just started a new job at racehorse trainer Adrian Keatley's yard near Malton before his death, according to the Racing Post.

At the time of Mr Mulryan's death, North Yorkshire Police said they were treating it as unexplained but were investigating potential links to a collision on the A169 Malton Road on the night of 15 June.

The crash, which involved a black Vauxhall Astra and an unknown vehicle, took place between the A64 interchange at Malton and Marishes Low Road.

The inquest was adjourned pending a full hearing at a later date.
