Plans for sports facilities set to take step forward
GooglePlans for new sports facilities in a village in Leicestershire are set to take a step forward.
Charnwood Borough Council's plans committee is recommended to approve an outline planning application on 19 March for a cricket pitch, a football pitch, open space and a pavilion on land off Seaton Road in Mountsorrel.
Work on the cricket pitch - which forms part of the Cufflins Park project - was approved in a previous planning application, and is set to be complete in 2027.
Applicant Mountsorrel Parish Council said outline permission would allow it to make applications for financial support for the scheme, before a more detailed reserved matters planning application is submitted.
According to planning documents, the proposed pavilion would be used for sport and community purposes.
Plans said the proposed building would not be only used for seasonal sport, and would "create an opportunity" to promote participation in sport across the generations.
"Flexible use will enable wider community benefit for the significantly extended housing areas at Mountsorrel and help to sustain the building physically and operationally," planning documents said.
A report prepared by planning officers states: "The wider benefits of approving this application without delay would enable much-needed public open space, playing fields and recreation to be delivered within Mountsorrel and the borough as a whole, which is significant benefit.
"The proposal offers health benefits with active healthy lifestyle to children/ adults and the wider community."
