A Northern Ireland health trust has apologised to hospital patients for "any discomfort" caused by a faulty heating and hot water system.

Grangewood, a mental health inpatient unit on the Gransha site in Londonderry, has experienced issues with its heating and hot water "over a number of days", the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) said.

The trust said while hot water was restored immediately, there continued to be "intermittent issues" with the heating system at Grangewood.

"The Trust apologises to patients for any inconvenience or discomfort caused," a spokesperson said.

The trust added that its estates team had carried out repairs and were monitoring the situation, adding that it was working to "ensure patient comfort is achieved".

Last month some patients at the nearby Altnagelvin Hospital were supplied with bottled water after a burst pipe disrupted the hospital's water supply.

It was among a number of infection prevention and control measures put in place over several days at the hospital.
