A police officer has denied assaulting a woman while dealing with a domestic disturbance.

PC Calum Brand, from West Midlands Police, had been called to an address in Halesowen on 16 June, to detain a man wanted on a warrant.

He is accused of attacking the suspect's partner while officers were attempting to detain the man, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said.

The 26-year-old pleaded not guilty to assault by beating at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and will stand trial before magistrates in Nottingham on 15 July.

The IOPC said West Midlands Police asked it to investigate on 4 July and a file of evidence was presented to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on 18 November.
