A company that previously ran a health club in Derbyshire owes creditors more than £8m, according to Companies House documents.

A notice of statement of affairs published by Companies House shows that, as of 23 February, Mark Clifford PT Ltd owed creditors £8,732,068.83.

Documents published by Companies House also confirm that the company, which previously operated The Clifford Health Club and Spa in Long Eaton, has begun winding-up proceedings and a liquidator has been appointed.

The club has since changed its name to The Regent Health Club & Spa and is under new ownership.

In a Facebook post, Mark Clifford previously said he was "very saddened" the business could not recover.

He added that the new owners were committed to protecting as many memberships, spa vouchers and staff roles as possible, and were planning significant investment.

According to Companies House documents, the former owners of the club owed HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) more than £1m, Erewash Borough Council £51,238.01 and Nottingham Forest £6,840.90 among other creditors.
