Flooding has hit parts of Leicester and the wider county after heavy rain.

The Environment Agency shared official warnings for Braunstone Town in Leicestershire and parts of the city on Thursday.

It followed yellow and amber weather warnings for rain, covering the East Midlands and other regions.

According to the two warnings, areas most at risk in Leicester are Spinney Hills and Evington, with the situation in Braunstone Town also being being closely monitored.

Images and videos taken in Leicester showed high water levels in the St Matthews area, as cars passed through flooded roads on Thursday.

Residents have been urged to "move possessions and valuables off the ground or to safety and avoid contact with flood water".

The flooding follows thunderstorms and downpours across the East Midlands last weekend.

With further rainfall expected into Friday, the agency said river levels were expected to remain high.
