The trial is taking place at Sheffield Crown Court

Two brothers groomed a vulnerable young girl for sex from when she was just 12 years old, a court has heard.

Kamar Ilyas, now 39, and Kamran Ilyas, now 38, both had sex with the girl in the mid-2000s, when the older brother was aged between 17-21, and the younger brother was aged between 18-20, prosecutors told Sheffield Crown Court.

Kamar Ilyas denies two charges of raping a child under the age of 13 and also denies two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a child.

Kamran Ilyas denies two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15, when under the age of 18, and two alternative counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl of 13-15, when aged 18 or over.

The jury was told the alternatives charged in relation to Kamran Ilyas related to whether they decided the defendant was 18 or younger at the time of the alleged incidents.

'Show off body'

Paul Abrahams, prosecuting, told a jury of 10 women and two men on Monday that the brothers, from Sheffield, had "systematically groomed a vulnerable young girl" in the city.

Abrahams told the court how the girl performed a sex act on Kamar Ilyas, who had the nickname Nasser, in bushes in Sheffield's Meersbrook Park when she was 12.

He said the girl, now in her 30s, also performed another sex act on Kamar Ilyas at Heeley City Farm, and he had sex with her in a car while parked in a lane near the Ivory Hotel.

The prosecutor said that at the time the girl had known Kamran Ilyas as "Kammy K" and she had sex with him in the bedroom of a flat where she had been drinking alcohol and smoking cannabis.

Kamran Ilyas had earlier removed her trousers in the living room and started to "show off her body", Abrahams explained.

According to the prosecutor, the girl said she was 13 years old at the time.

Meanwhile, Abrahams said Kamran Ilyas also had sex with the girl on a bench in Sheffield's Millennium Park, when she again said she was 13.

'Denies sexual contact'

The prosecutor told jurors they would hear from women who were the girl's friends at the time who would explain how she appeared to be in a sexual relationship with someone called Kammy.

One friend kept a diary whose entries made clear the girl was having sex with "unidentified males", he said.

Defending Kamran Ilyas, Stephen Spence told the court his client "denies any sexual contact" with the girl, "and, therefore, disputes any reported identification".

Puneet Grewal, defending Kamar Ilyas, told the jury her client "denies ever knowing or having met" the girl.

Grewal said that he also denied using the nickname Nasser, or that "any sexual intercourse or activity ever took place" with the girl.

Judge Peter Hampton told the jurors that consent was not an issue in this case.

The trial continues.
