A council has begun preparations to host two events to celebrate pride in its community.

The events, organised by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, will feature a range of activities inviting residents to join in with a litter-picking of Chesterton Memorial Park, or a clean-up of Crackley recreational ground.

It is hoped it will bring together council staff and local residents to "create a cleaner, safer and friendlier borough", the council said.

The events will be held in Chesterton and Holditch, followed by Crackley and Red Street on 4 and 5 March.

Council Leader Simon Tagg said: "Our events are a fantastic opportunity for communities to come together and make a positive difference to their local area.

"By working together, we can help ensure our neighbourhoods remain places that we are all proud to call home."

More information about the full Civic Pride programme, and how to get involved, is available on the council's website.
