Bus passengers in Shropshire using council-run services will be able to make single-fare journeys for just 50p during the festive period.

Telford & Wrekin Council has applied the special discount from Saturday until 4 January and it will apply across all council-run bus services.

A spokesperson for the authority said the offer was "part of the council's ongoing commitment to providing affordable, reliable public transport".

Councillor Ollie Vickers, cabinet member for economy and transport, said: "By bringing back the 50p single fare this Christmas, we want to encourage even more people to give the bus a go and see how easy, convenient and affordable it can be."

He added: "It's about making travel simpler, easing pressure on household budgets and supporting greener, more sustainable ways of getting around the borough."

The authority has introduced its own commissioned bus services in the area over the past three years.

These have kept the previous £2 fare cap to increase take-up, while the government's standard cap for participating local bus services has increased to £3.
