A man has been convicted of murdering another man in broad daylight during an apparent revenge attack.

Kevin Shanley stabbed Brian Gough, 27, to death in the doorway of a shop in Glasgow's Possilpark area on 18 May 2024.

The 37-year-old targeted Gough after the victim punched his younger brother Kyle Shanley, 28, moments earlier.

Kevin Shanley faces a life sentence after he was found guilty of murder at the High Court in Glasgow.

CCTV footage of the crime was played to jurors during the trial.

The brothers were initially captured standing in the area's Saracen Street where they met Brian Gough and his girlfriend.

The court heard there were no signs of hostility initially, but Gough soon went on to punch Kyle Shanley.

This was said to have taken him by "surprise".

Prosecutor Colin Edward said the siblings later went on to leave a block of flats in the street looking for the victim.

Kyle Shanley was initially described as "swiping" at the victim with a knife after he left the shop, and was pushed away by Gough.

When Gough went back into the doorway of the shop, Kevin Shanley had taken possession of the knife, and lunged for him before running away.

Footage from inside the shop saw Gough initially slumped at the counter, before collapsing on the floor with his T-shirt covered in blood.

He never recovered, having been struck in the heart, and died the next day in hospital.

The advocate depute had urged jurors to convict both brothers of the killing of Gough, who was described as a "nice big guy" following the death.

He said Kevin Shanley was the one who had carried out the stabbing, but that his brother had acted "in concert" with his older sibling in that he had "participated in a plan to use serious violence" that day.

However Kyle Shanley was acquitted of murder, and instead found guilty of the heavily reduced charge of assaulting Gough by attempting to strike him with a knife.

Judge Douglas Brown continued Kevin Shanley's remand as sentencing was adjourned for reports.

He previously had some minor previous convictions for cannabis possession.

Kyle Shanley had been in custody since being charged in 2024. He was bailed and will return to the dock with his brother in March.

Det Ch Insp Laura Young said it had been a "shocking and violent incident" and that the impact on Gough's loved ones had been "devastating".

She said: "Both Kevin and Kyle Shanley will now face the consequences of their actions."
