A dispersal order is being introduced across parts of Surrey over police concerns about a planned car meet.

The order will run from 16:00 GMT until 04:00, covering Cobham Services, the Brooklands Industrial Estate in Weybridge and Waterside Drive in Walton-on-Thames.

Surrey Police said the measure was designed to reduce the risk of anti-social driving and minimise disruption to residents and road users.

Insp Chris Thoday, borough commander for Elmbridge, said previous car meets had caused "significant disruption" on the M25 around Cobham Services.

He said the move was "not about spoiling the fun of car enthusiasts" but about keeping the area safe.

The order gives officers the power to direct people to leave if they are committing - or are likely to commit - a criminal offence.

Additional patrols will be in place while the order is active.
