Details emerge of estate described as dangerous

Details of a new Leicestershire housing estate, described as "dangerous" by a councillor, have been submitted.

A bid to build 225 homes in Ratby was approved by a government inspector on appeal after Hinckley and Bosworth councillors initially blocked the scheme in August 2023.

At the time, ward councillor Chris Boothby dubbed it "the most ridiculous, speculative and dangerous application" he had "ever come across" due to the speed of traffic in Desford Lane, where the estate would be built.

Developer Gladman and Bletsoe has now outlined the size and type of homes to be built off the road.

It intends to build six one-bed maisonettes, 12 two-bedroom bungalows, 42 two-bed houses, 84 three-beds, 57 four-bed homes and 24 five-bedroom properties.

The developer said 90 of the homes will be classed as "affordable", said the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The latest application also gives details of landscaping, including "central open spaces for play and recreation".

In planning documents, the company said it was "committed to creating a new built environment which will be distinctively 'of Ratby'".
