City landmarks illuminated for Colour and Light
BBC/Phil BodmerTwo of York's most recognisable buildings will be illuminated as part of the annual Colour and Light evenings.
The event will see both Clifford's Tower and the Castle Museum lit up by a fully choreographed projection show later.
The 10-minute free show, organised by York's Business Improvement District (BID), is due to run on a "continuous loop" each evening until 22 February between 18:00 GMT and 21:00 GMT.
It is the fourth time the event has taken place in the city and York BID said 100,000 people viewed last year's projection at York Minster.
Carl Alsop, from York BID, said they were determined to beat that number this year.
"It's the first time we've projected onto two different canvasses. The content is amazing - this is the one to see."
The event is designed to encourage visitors to the city at what is traditionally a quieter time of the year.
"It is basically a marriage of culture and support for early evening economy businesses," Alsop said.
BBC/Phil BodmerThe show brings a number of the city and Yorkshire's historic characters to life and is described as "family-friendly".
Catherine Blacker, from York Museums Trust which runs the Castle Museum, said they were delighted to be taking part.
"The city is blessed with such a wonderful historic range of buildings but it's truly wonderful to see them illuminated in a different way.
"Telling stories that resonate with people today but illuminate and tell the stories of York's past."
In previous years the event has seen both York Minster, and the city's art gallery used as backdrops for illuminated projection shows.
