A fire which broke out at a house in the early hours of New Year's Eve, leaving one person dead, has been ruled as accidental.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service was called to the property in Glenboi, Mountain Ash in Rhondda Cynon Taf just before 02:15 GMT on Wednesday.

Firefighters worked to control the fire, while officers from South Wales Police closed nearby roads and evacuated residents from adjacent properties.

A joint investigation between both emergency services, along with RCT Council, concluded on Friday that the blaze had not been started deliberately.

The fire service said the property had sustained significant damage, with areas of partial structural collapse.

Formal identification of the person who died has not yet been confirmed, the service said.

"Our thoughts are with the family and the community during this challenging time," it added.
