A library has been forced to close temporarily following the partial collapse of its ceiling.

A structural engineer has been appointed to assess the situation at Charminster Library on Strouden Avenue in Bournemouth.

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council said it would decide on next steps once the inspection was completed.

Andy Martin, the authority's portfolio holder for leisure, culture and local heritage, said the library was "an important community resource" and that residents would be kept informed during the disruption.

While the building remains closed, books and other items borrowed from the library can be returned to any branch within the Libraries West network.
