Lightpool Festival shines across resort

Illuminated art trails, 3D projections and live performances are set to light up Blackpool as part of the annual Lightpool Festival.

This year’s free festival runs until 26 October and features 22 artworks and projection shows, including installations from France, Finland and Spain.

The resort's main thoroughfare, the Golden Mile, features 21 neon lighting features with three different designs, designed by TV's Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

There are also interactive installations, including a trio of huge jellyfish on the promenade.

Supported by Arts Council England, the programme includes an art trail with free installations on the Promenade and throughout the town centre, lit up from 18:00 to 22:00 BST.

More than 30 artists have collaborated for the event, with ticketed shows such as the illuminated Carnival inside the Tower Ballroom on Monday, blending music, puppetry and dance, and an multi-sensory adventure for children at the Showtown Museum.

Council leader Lynn Williams, said: "Lightpool Festival offers something extraordinary for all and is a great community event" offering "amazing light displays and innovation".

"Installations created by talented artists from around the world that will transform and illuminate our town."
