Police are increasing night-time patrols and deploying dogs as part of a campaign to keep women safe over Christmas.

Plain clothes and uniformed officers from Kent Police will be challenging anyone considered to be posing threatening behaviour as part of Project Vigilant.

Officers will be accompanied by two dogs - Sully and Max - who have been trained to identify drink-spiking drugs.

Officers were in Canterbury, Medway, and Maidstone over the weekend on the look out for predators.

The force said patrols visited the high streets and pubs and clubs, and that multiple stops and arrests were made.

Supt Nick Sparkes said: "Intervening on suspicious activity early ensures that everyone can enjoy their night out securely.

"Operations like this form just part of our ongoing commitment to protecting women and girls."
