Dozens of illegal e-bikes seized in police raids
Metropolitan PolicePolice have seized 37 illegal or dangerous e-bikes and scooters, during an operation targeting crime and anti-social behaviour in south-west London.
Officers in Merton made 57 arrests during the month-long operation, which also led to weapons being recovered and a closure order being issued against a property linked to gang activity.
Operation Frostwatch ran from 17 November to 24 December and focused on improving road safety, disrupting criminal networks and responding to concerns raised by local residents.
As well as the e-bikes and scooters, police recovered seven knives, a firearm, and located 15 wanted people, including a sex offender.
A closure order was also secured against an address in Pollards Hill, which officers said was linked to gang activity.
Police said it would help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and ease tensions between rival groups in the area.
Sgt Matthew Bower said tackling the criminal and anti-social use of e-bikes and high-powered scooters had been a key priority.
He added their use was a "major concern for local residents" and was often linked to offences such as street robberies and drug supply.
"Seizing 37 e-bikes was one of the operation's standout successes," he said.
