Eight appear in court after seafront brawl

Eight boys and men who were arrested in connection with a violent brawl in a seaside town have appeared in court.

The disturbance broke out on Southend-on-Sea's seafront and High Street on Tuesday, 30 July at about 20:00 BST and Essex Police said seven weapons were seized.

All eight were arrested on suspicion of offences including the possession of offensive weapons.

The defendants appeared at Basildon Crown Court and are due to enter pleas at a hearing set for 30 September.

Police had put a Section 60 dispersal order in the area which lasted for about 24 hours.
