The county council said it was not able to extend its lease on the Morningthorpe site near Long Stratton

A recycling centre will close before the end of the year because a council has been unable to agree a new lease on the land.

Norfolk County Council said the centre at Morningthorpe near Long Stratton would shut in October.

The authority said its 25-year-long lease on the site was set to expire and it had not been able to agree an extension with the landowner.

"It's disappointing that we have to close this facility, but the decision has been taken out of our hands," said James Bensley, the Conservative councillor responsible for waste.

The council said the nearest alternative site was the Norwich South Recycling Centre, just over seven miles away from Morningthorpe.

Based off the A140 Ipswich Road, it opened at the end of 2021.
